A New Guitar and a New Video

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas is a tune I’ve played for many years, and for which I have a couple different arrangements. This arrangement, newly refined this year, is a very conventional chord melody jazz setting that is intended to let the bittersweet nature of the song come through.

The guitar is a recently acquired Eastman T145, recorded acoustically — without going through an amp. The acoustic tone of this guitar is remarkably good. It is made of all solid woods and features a carved spruce top, carved maple back, maple sides and neck with an ebony fingerboard. Eastman guitars are made in China and are a phenomenal value.

The audio was recorded at the same time as the video, but on a separate device to have more control over the sound. The video and audio were then combined.

Here is a link to the music for the arrangement: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Test Driving an Eastman Archtop

This guitar is currently under evaluation as a possible addition to the Franklin Kennels and Music Camp. It is an Eastman T145, for those who care about such things. So far he is checking out pretty well. He plays nicely and sounds very good. Perhaps most importantly, it has some qualities my L-4 CES and GB10 do not – mainly some acoustic bark/snap. It doesn’t have the pure beauty of tone my Orchid does, but it feels/plays better.

Here is a quick and seasonally appropriate recording I made with him yesterday:

Holiday Music 2012

I know it’s a bit early, being only November 5th, but musicians do think about holiday music at this point.

I have a Christmas Album available for sale — this is a track from that album.
