Venturing #1: Perfidia

“Perfidia” was a hit for the Ventures, released in 1960. While this version is not a literal cover, it is intended to evoke the style of surf-rock instrumentals from that period.

Trying Again

This tune and arrangement dates from a few years back. I never made a video for it, however. I redid a couple of the rhythm guitar tracks and re-produced the whole thing again in Protools. I think this is one of my best smooth-jazz tunes.

First and Last

For a while I’ve been intending to do something in a “smoother” vein than my recent work. That desire combined with the approaching end of my holiday break to produce this tune, “First and Last” — the first of 2016 and likely the last before school starts in a couple of days.

The composition has┬ávery distinct sections, and jazz vocabulary, and the form resembles the classic “Rondo”. The mood is somewhat somber and contemplative.
