This is my instrumental cover of “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head”, written by Hal David and Burt Bacharach for the 1969 film “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” The single by B. J. Thomas reached No. 1 on charts in the United States and Canada. It topped the US charts for four weeks at the start of 1970.

Blue Shadows

This is my cover of “Blue Shadows”, originally a track on the Shadows 1964 album, “Dance with the Shadows”. I would describe this as a 12-bar blues “album filler” number. Songwriting credit is shared by all four group members at the time: Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch, Brian Bennett and Brian Locking.

Theme from “Bilitis”

This is my cover of the Theme from “Bilitis”, a 1977 French romantic and erotic drama film, which was directed by photographer David Hamilton. The score and the theme were composed by Francis Lai – also noted for composing the music for “A Man and a Woman” and “Love Story”.

This is my instrumental cover of “Jean” – the theme song from the 1969 movie “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie”. It was written by the American poet and composer Rod McKuen, who also recorded a version of the song.

“Jean” was also recorded by the American singer Oliver, and made to #2 on the Billboard hot 100.

This is my instrumental cover of the “Love Theme from Cinema Paradiso”.

Cinema Paradiso was a 1988 Italian dramatic film written and directed by Giuseppe Tornatore. The music score was composed by Ennio Morricone along with his son, Andrea.

Both the movie’s main theme and this love them have attained considerable popularity, and have been performed and recorded by numerous artists.

What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?

This is my instrumental cover of “What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?”, which was composed by Michel Legrand with lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman. It was for the 1969 film “The Happy Ending”. The song was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song but lost out to “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head”.

Parisienne Walkways

This is my instrumental cover of “Parisienne Walkways”, a song by guitarist Gary Moore that reached number 8 in the UK Singles Chart in May 1979. The song is featured on Moore’s album “Back on the Streets” and features a vocal from Thin Lizzy frontman, Phil Lynott, who co-wrote the song with Moore. It became Moore’s signature song. The guitar melody and chords of “Parisienne Walkways” are taken from the jazz standard “Blue Bossa” by Kenny Dorham.

The Shadows covered the song on their 1979 album, “String of Hits”.

“Toe Flapper” is an original instrumental intended to be in the style of the material the Shadows were doing in the early 1960s.

Chega de Saudade

This is my instrumental cover of “Chega de Saudade” (in English, “No More Blues”), a bossa nova jazz standard. It is sometimes considered to be the first recorded bossa nova song. The music was composed by Antonio Carlos Jobim and the lyrics were written by Vinícius de Moraes. João Gilberto’s 1958 recording is probably the most famous.

The title can be translated roughly as “enough longing”, though the Portuguese word, saudade, carries with it a complex meaning. The word implies an intensity of heartfelt nostalgia. Chega, in this case, means no more, enough.
