“Giant” was a 1956 American epic Western drama film, directed by George Stevens from a screenplay adapted from Edna Ferber’s 1952 novel. The film starred Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean and features Carroll Baker, Jane Withers, Chill Wills, Mercedes McCambridge, Dennis Hopper, Sal Mineo, Rod Taylor, Elsa Cardenas and Earl Holliman. Giant was the last of James Dean’s three films as a leading actor, and earned him his second and last Academy Award nomination – he was killed in a car accident before the film was released.

The film’s score was composed by Dimitri Tiomkin, whose film music career included twenty-two Academy Award nominations and four Oscars, three for Best Original Score for High NoonThe High and the Mighty, and The Old Man and the Sea, and one for Best Original Song for “The Ballad of High Noon”.

The Shadows released a version of the main theme from “Giant” on an EP (extended play) 45 in 1961. My version is a cover of theirs.
